WE’RE HERE TO BE A LIGHT TO THE LOST, AND SPIRITUAL ENCOURAGEMENT TO THE BELIEVERS.

THE STORY

Community Radio, Inc. was incorporated in 1978, with the purpose of building a Christian radio station in Pasadena for the Houston area.

In 1979, the Lord called the pastor of Community Church in Pasadena, TX, Bob Vaughn, to start a radio station. The station was licensed, built and signed On-Air in February ’81, as 89.3 KFTG.

A few months down the road, it changed genre’s from Contemporary to Southern Gospel.  KJIC then operated at 118 watts at 89.3 FM.  In ’87 KSBJ and KJIC swapped frequencies.  KJIC was now at 88.1 FM with 440 watts.

In ’91, Community Radio built another station.  This new station was licensed to Santa Fe, and operated at 90.5 FM with 5,000 watts.

Our increase in ‘93, was to 6,000 watts.

In ‘03, Community Radio sold the Pasadena station to raise funds to build our on tower.  We began broadcasting on our new tower in ‘03 with 7,700 watts.

In ‘09, KJIC upgraded to 36,000 watts directional.

In 2016, the Lord spoke to the Program Director, Sean Vaughn, and son to the GM, about his vision for the future of the station.  He came to Sean with the vision of being a platform, and a leader in Christian music, by having multiple stations of different genre’s to appeal to everyone. “I thought this could not be done. There is no way to play a country song next to pop, or oldies. But the Lord gave me wisdom in how to do it.” Sean says.  He also says that he realized that in this day, people want more of a variety of music than ever before.  Sean continues to seek the Lord, and prays for wisdom in directing the station, in the way God wants it to go.
