"Gospel Music Radio for the Houston/Galveston Area"
What's The Difference?
Our 90.5FM Stream features our on-the-air programming. Our alternative Stream features uplifting Praise and Worship music.
Computers with current Windows installations should be able to listen
using one of the Windows Media links. To listen to the mp3 streams you
need a program that plays the mp3 format installed on your computer.
Most computers are ready to go, but if yours isn't, two good programs
are Quintessential and Winamp.
Most people who download and install one of these free programs are
able to listen to KJIC with little or no problem.
LISTENING HELP- Section 1
The most common reasons people have problems listening is that
(1) they are running older versions of Windows Media player, so the
Windows Media links don't work, or (2) they haven't downloaded and
installed Quintessential or Winamp
yet. There are other programs that can be used, but just because you
can use a program to listen to other things on the Internet it doesn't
mean it will work for listening to KJIC. We are streaming MP3 audio, so
the program you use must be able to decode that format. Current
versions of Windows Media OR Quintessential or Winamp will do
that. For information on downloading and installing Quintessential or
Winamp, see section 2 below.
Streaming audio pushes Internet technology a bit, and because
of that, our stream isn't always available. It is our desire to be on
the Internet 24/7 -- but computer problems, Internet connect problems,
server problems can all defeat the best laid plans! We are streaming
over 99% of the time...but it may be that you have arrived on the site
at just the wrong time! If you can listen to one stream but not the other, it is likely that that stream is temporarily off line.
Be sure you are using the most current link. Many regular
listeners have "book marked" or added the link to listen to their
"favorites" list. They don't come to the web page to click on "listen"
-- they just use their saved link. There is nothing wrong with that
approach, except for the rare instance in which the company that
provides our streaming service needs for us to change the listen
address. Over the past year that has happened 3 times! Those who had
book marked our listen link had to come back and get a the new URL!
Related to number 3...sometimes web bowers cache web sites, so
when you attempt to go to the site, you actually just see a copy of the
site already on your computer. In other words, the listen link has been
changed on the web site, but you are still going to the old listen
address because the web page is stored in your computer. Refreshing or
reloading the page usually fixes that.
If you are listening at work and one day you can't get it to
work anymore, you might want to check with your system administrator.
We have known of at least one instance in which the systems administrator decided
to block streaming audio to the whole company.
Some people can connect, but there are many drop outs. That is
a very different problem than not being able to connect at all. Think
of it as filling up a bucket that has an open spigot in the bottom.
Quintessential and Winamp have buckets (buffer) that are filled with
the the music before it starts playing for you...making the signal you
listen to be about 30 seconds behind what is actually being heard over
the air. If your connect gets slower for a few seconds, the bucket
(buffer) starts emptying. Hopefully, your connect will get up to a
speed that is faster than the stream before the bucket runs dry.
If it runs dry, the music stops while the bucket is refilled.

ListeningHelp - Section 2
Disclaimer 1: The Winamp web site is far from Christian. They have a
great program, but we don't endorse everything on their web site.
Disclaimer 2: We haven't been recommending Quintessential as long as we
have Winamp, but we found nothing objectionable on their website or in
how the program operates.
Disclaimer 3: The information given here about going to the web sites
can only be general information, as companies change their web sites
fairly often...still, this ought to get you started in the right
direction!
Both Quintessential and Winamp are free programs that can be used to
listen to KJIC's audio stream on the internet. There are many other
programs that will do the job, but if you need to download a program,
Quintessential and Winamp are good ones.
Across the top of the page you will see a series of "tabs" -- click on the one named "Player."
Click on the "Free" button.
On the right side of the screen, you will see links to various
instructions for different web browsers. If you need to, check out the
information for your specific web browser..
So far as listening to KJIC is concerned, any version of Winamp will do, but the "Full version" is probably best.Quintessential Directions

New computer users may have problems doing the download and
install. If you are in that category, you might want to ask a friend to
walk you through the process.
Once you have the program downloaded and installed, just click
on the "listen" link at the top of the KJIC.org home page and you
should be able to listen!
If you have dropouts, etc. be sure to read section 1 of this page to better understand what is happening.
