Jason Byrd – Better Life Feat. George Jones

Written by on November 18, 2021

From the title tracked album, Jason Byrd (along with a special recording of George Jones) presents Better Life.

When mom and dad got married ,
back in 1962.
He picked out a gift for her,
to show his love was true.
A locket with a picture,
and two dates engraved inside.
She asked him what the dates men’t,
and here’s how he replied.

He said the first day is the day
that I was brought into this world.
The pride and sole possession
of my grandad’s little girl.
The line between’s when I was learnin’
how to be a man.
The second days when I met you,
and a Better Life began.

It’s been almost seven years now,
since momma passed away.
I never will forget the words,
the preacher said that day.
I sat there holdin’ back the tears,
and held on to my wife.
As he talked about her tombstone,
how it represented life.

He said the first day is the day,
that she was brought into this world.
A spittin’ image of her mom,
her daddy’s little girl.
The line was her time here on Earth,
with family and friends.
The second day’s when she went with the Lord,
And her Better Life began.

The second day’s when she went with the Lord,
And her Better Life began.
