Daily Preparation

I, like most of you, have been thinking about the Thanksgiving meal. What am I making? What ingredients are needed? Who are you feeding? What desserts?

Then, we try to time everything out. I put our turkey in the fridge on Sunday. We will prepare it today. I then decided what dishes can be made today and finished tomorrow…. The list is somewhat long.

Making lists and being prepared are crucial for successful completion.

It is just as important as Christ followers to be prepared for when unexpected things come up so we can better handle it all. We can look to the Bible for that and pray and ask God to guide our heart and fix our minds on him.

Proverbs 24:27 says, prepare your work outside; get everything ready for yourself in the field, and after that build your house.

Essentially, get everything together, then begin to get to work on the job at hand. When we are prepared, we are ensuring that we have all we need. With God we do.

When doing your devotional time do you prepare yourself? I try. I want to make sure I am getting out of it what the Lord wants me to but if I don’t have my attention completely on what I am doing then I will miss something. I think it is important to be prepared when reading the Bible and praying.

I know sometimes for me if I am not fully paying attention then I will end up thinking about so many other things because some days it can be difficult to stay focused.

1 Peter 1:13 reads, Therefore, preparing your minds for action, and being sober minded, set your hope fully on the grace that will be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ. I want to be prepared so I don’t miss what God has for me.

1 Peter 3:15 says, but in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect…

When we are prepared and equipped with all the Lord is providing, we can come into conversation with anyone about why we have hope. Then we are able to share that our hope is in the Lord.

When we are going to God in prayer and studying His word, we are preparing our hearts in that way and that will eventually translate to all that we do and how we speak.

Just like preparing a meal, if you get together all you need and you follow the recipes you have then you will end up with something very fulfilling and good.
