Everything To God - Letting Go

Today we are going to discuss giving everything to God and letting go. We need to surrender control, trust God completely, and find peace in letting go of the things we can't manage on our own.

Sometimes we try to control every detail in our lives, but God calls us to trust Him completely. The truth is, we’re not meant to carry everything alone.

Psalm 55:22 says, “Give your burdens to the Lord, and he will take care of you. He will not permit the godly to slip and fall.” God invites us to let go of our worries, our plans, and even our pain because He cares for us.

Today, we’ll explore what it means to surrender to God and find peace in letting go.

Let’s start by acknowledging that letting go isn’t easy. Many of us feel safer holding onto control, even when it causes us stress or anxiety. We think, “If I don’t hold onto this, who will?” But God asks us to let go so that He can take over. Proverbs 3:5-6 says, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.”

It’s funny how my thought process works sometimes. I had no real plans for after high school, but when it came to the smaller things in life, if I didn’t feel like I had control, I would spiral. You’d think it would be the other way around. In the past, I was a laid-back control freak… now I’m just more laid-back because I’ve learned how important it is for God to be in control.

We struggle to let go because it feels like losing control. But when we realize that God’s understanding and wisdom are far greater than ours, it becomes easier to trust that He knows the path, even when we don’t.

What are you holding onto that’s causing you stress or worry? Take a moment to think about it, and consider inviting God into that area.

When we finally give our struggles and desires to God, we experience a profound sense of peace and freedom. Jesus tells us in Matthew 11:28-30, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls.”

Surrender often has a negative connotation. But it doesn’t mean giving up; it means giving to God. Here’s another way my thought process is funny—when I was younger, I wouldn’t try certain things for fear of failure. But when I was determined, I’d go all in and wouldn’t give up, no matter how many times I failed. Why? Because I wanted to achieve it. I wanted control and the acknowledgment that I did it.

That need for control could then consume me. But when we let go of control and place our trust in God, we open ourselves to His rest and peace. We open ourselves to true success because we are allowing God to lead. It’s a beautiful exchange—our burdens for His peace, our worries for His assurance.

Releasing even one specific worry or burden to God can bring so much relief. Say a simple prayer, telling God that you trust Him with this area of your life, and let yourself rest in His care. You might be amazed at the peace that comes with surrender.

Surrender is about choosing to live with open hands, letting go of the things we can’t control, and trusting that God’s got us covered. When we do this, we invite His peace, joy, and love into every area of our lives.

Something important to understand is that living a life of surrender isn’t a one-time decision; it’s a daily choice. Each day, we’re invited to trust God with our lives, our hopes, and our future. Philippians 4:6-7 reminds us, “Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand.”

To let go is to trust that God’s plans are better than ours. When we pray and thank Him, even when we don’t have all the answers, we find a peace that surpasses understanding. It’s about choosing faith over fear and trusting that God is in control.

When my kids were toddlers, I wanted to make sure things went exactly as I thought they should. I was drowning in my desire to control so many little details each day. God showed me, first, that He is the one who allowed me to be their mother and, though He trusted me with them, they were still His. Second, He convicted me of my issue with control. I had to pray daily for God to help me release control and let Him handle everything, big and small, throughout my day.

Make it a habit to start each morning with a quick prayer of surrender. Offer your plans, worries, and desires to God before the day begins. Though it’s a simple step, it can shift your whole perspective, helping you walk in peace and trust rather than stress and control. Let’s remember that letting go and giving everything to God isn’t about losing anything—it’s about gaining His peace, wisdom, and guidance. Romans 8:28 says, “And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.”

Even when we can’t see how things will work out, we can trust that He’s working everything for our good.
