Galatians 5:22-23 says, “But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things!”
1 John 4:9 says, “God showed how much He loved us by sending his one and only Son into the world so that we might have eternal life through Him.”
Notice that the scripture says, “God showed how much He loved us.” Often, we are uncertain about God, His love, and all that He does, but the Bible provides proof after proof of Him showing His love.
I can’t even imagine what it would feel like as a parent. Dropping my kids off at school on their first days always got to me. So, to think about God loving us so much that He would send Jesus here to walk in our shoes and then die for us… I’m sure I would be an absolute mess if that was what I was dropping my kids off for.
When I think about God doing that and Jesus doing what He did, I definitely try not to take any of it for granted. Instead, I strive to be thankful and recognize that all I have is because of Jesus’ love for me.
Love being the first fruit mentioned makes sense because in 1 Corinthians 13:13, it says, “Three things will last forever – faith, hope, and love – and the greatest of these is love."
Jesus talked about love repeatedly.
In fact, it is mentioned in the Bible anywhere from 361 to 714 times, depending on the translation. “Love your neighbor as yourself” is one that is frequently quoted.
When we love, we are more willing to do things. Think about it: if you have a loved one who needs your help, you will do all you can to lend a helping hand in some way or another. You generally do it because you love them, and their needs trump anything you have going on. This is something each and every one of us can relate to.
God does this for us every day. He gives and does so without hesitation because of His love for us. We can count on His commitment to love us unconditionally. Our love for Him strengthens our faith and hope in who He is.
1 John 4:16 says, “We know how much God loves us, and we have put our trust in His love. God is love, and all who live in love live in God, and God lives in them.”
It says, “We know how much God loves us and we trust His love.” Sometimes, we know it in our minds but not in our hearts, and other times it can be that we know it in our hearts but have to convince our minds that we are seen and loved. The Bible is the proof we need and what we need to go to when we need assurance in who God is.
Know that God loves you and in return we can loves as He has taught us to love one another.
