Hearing God

Let’s dive into one of the most powerful and personal aspects of our relationship with the Lord: recognizing and responding to His voice. How does He speak to us? Is it a whisper in your heart, a word from Scripture, or even a prompting through your circumstances?

Let's explore how to tune our spiritual ears to His frequency. From the busyness of our daily lives to the quiet moments we carve out for prayer, God is always speaking—are we listening?

When was the last time you felt God was speaking directly to you?

Jesus calls us His sheep, emphasizing the close relationship He wants with us.

John 10:27 says, "My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me."

There are many ways we can learn to hear God’s voice. Prayer and reading His Word are great starting points because they teach us His character and how He has spoken to others. We also need discernment. In the noise of life, it’s important to quiet our hearts and intentionally seek Him. We learn to discern His voice by being still and listening for Him.

Another way to recognize God’s voice is by reflecting on moments when you’ve clearly felt His leading. Those undeniable experiences remind us of His goodness and His ability to speak directly to our hearts. Let’s lean into our relationship with the Lord and listen for His voice.

God promises that when we seek Him sincerely, we will hear Him. But sometimes, we may miss His voice because we’re expecting Him to speak in a specific way. Scripture often describes God’s voice as a gentle whisper. He speaks uniquely to each of us in ways that resonate with who we are.

I’ve heard many stories of how someone was doing their daily job and one day they felt so clearly that the Lord told them that they were going to be doing something else.

We hear of people who have been called to be pastors and missionaries and so on and so forth. There are people who feel the urge to give and serve because God has spoken to them. All around us there are examples of God speaking to people and calling them to do something specific for Him. It’s because of their actions to God’s call that we are now able to share it with others.

Is God saying something to you today? Are you up to act to that call?

Let’s not just hear God’s word what live it out with our obedience.

Have you noticed how God speaks to you?

Jeremiah 29:13 say – "If you look for me wholeheartedly, you will find me."

When you are going through life, and you are seeking answers I just want to encourage you to remember how God spoke to you before and also all the different ways you see and maybe even hear Him throughout your daily tasks.

For me, it often happens when my hands are busy—folding laundry, washing dishes, or running errands. It’s in those seemingly ordinary moments that I feel His presence most clearly. It reminds me that God’s voice is constant; we just need to listen.

The Bible says, “Seek Him, and you will find Him.” Everyone seeks differently.

What works for you? Have you taken the time to notice how and when God speaks to you?

When God speaks, He invites us to act. So, what would your initial reaction be when God calls you to something?

I once watched a video where a man had to identify his coworkers by their voices alone. It made me think about how we can recognize God’s voice—clearly and without hesitation—by spending time with Him.

In Isaiah 6:8, we read, “Then I heard the Lord asking, ‘Whom should I send as a messenger to this people? Who will go for us?’ I said, ‘Here I am. Send me.’”

Isaiah knew God’s voice because he spent time with Him. His response was immediate and filled with obedience.

The Bible is full of stories of people called by God, often to tasks they never expected. But when we are open to His call, obedience becomes our natural response.

James 1:22 reminds us, “But don’t just listen to God’s word. You must do what it says.” The joy and fulfillment we feel when we respond to God’s voice are indescribable. If you feel God calling you to something, lean in closer, take small steps of obedience, and trust that He will guide you.

Trust is built when someone proves themselves trustworthy. God has done that time and again.

Proverbs 3:5-6 tells us to, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek His will in all you do, and He will show you which path to take.”

God knows all and that includes what is best for us. Sure, grasping that is hard and it may not be something we fully understand because we just can’t comprehend it all. But trust is something we can do.

One way we learn to trust people is by seeing their character and watching if they follow through on their words and how they treat people. The same is true on how we can trust the Lord. When we read His words, we are learning who He is and how He handles things.

Is He trustworthy?

Well, I can tell you that when I seek God’s will in uncertain times, and I feel a since of peace and then there is clarity that is showing me that God is the way maker where there seems to be now way, I know that I can trust Him.

God’s voice always leads us down the right path.

Trusting God means surrendering our plans and leaning on His wisdom.

Romans 8:28 reminds us, “And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God.”

In our daily lives we go about doing our routines and really just what needs to get done. We have lists and we check things off and we can become so focused on those things that we don’t recognize that God is working and weaving things together for us and for His glory.

I’ve experienced this in my own life. In moments of uncertainty, when I couldn’t see a way forward, God showed up. He provided for my family when we had little and gave me peace when I prayed for His guidance. He has never failed to make a way where there seemed to be none.

God is always at work for our good. Let’s trust Him fully with every part of our lives.

I want to leave you with this: God’s voice is a steady, loving guide in our lives. When we recognize His voice, respond in obedience, and trust His plans, we’re walking in step with His purpose for us. Thank you for spending your morning with me. I pray you go into your day filled with peace and confidence in Him.
