Heart Over Mind – Trusting God Beyond Logic

Have you ever found yourself in a situation where your mind was telling you one thing, but your heart was pulling you another way? We live in a world that tells us to ‘think logically’ and ‘be rational,’ but sometimes, faith calls us to step beyond what makes sense. Today, we’re talking about ‘Heart Over Mind’—trusting God even when our reasoning struggles to catch up.

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding.” — Proverbs 3:5

There’s a difference between following emotions blindly and trusting God with your heart. Today, we’ll explore how to balance wisdom with faith, allowing God to lead even when things don’t make sense on paper.

When Faith Challenges Logic – The Battle Between Head and Heart

Our minds want certainty, but faith often requires trust in the unseen.

“We live by believing and not by seeing.” — 2 Corinthians 5:7

Examples from the Bible: Abraham leaving his home. The Lord told Abraham to leave and go to a land that he had never seen or known, and he just went in obedience.

Peter stepping out of the boat is another one. No one had ever walked on water before—until Jesus did—and Peter’s first thought was to join Him. That wouldn’t have been my first thought! But Peter just knew he wanted to step out into the unknown and follow Jesus.

When faced with a tough decision, pray first before making a logical conclusion.

Can you recall a time when your faith had to override logic?

Human Logic is Limited; God’s Wisdom is Infinite

“My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts,” says the Lord. “And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine.” — Isaiah 55:8

Trusting God means letting go of the need to understand everything.

When you feel stuck in your thoughts, take time to read God’s Word and gain perspective. We need to align our thoughts with what the Lord has planned for us. Seeking His Word and His perspective changes how we walk through life.

What’s one area in your life where you struggle to let go of control?

When the Heart Knows What the Mind Can’t Grasp

“Because of our faith, Christ has brought us into this place of undeserved privilege where we now stand, and we confidently and joyfully look forward to sharing God’s glory.” — Romans 5:2

Sometimes, God speaks to our hearts in ways that don’t make sense logically.

There have been a lot of times when, in my heart, I believed and knew something was happening, but for some reason, my mind couldn’t comprehend it.

Personal testimonies of people who followed their faith despite doubts help us better understand.

If God is leading you toward something that feels uncertain, take a small step in faith.

How do you determine if something is truly from God or just an emotional response?

Prayer – Seek the Lord

Now that we’ve talked about trusting God even when it doesn’t make sense, let’s explore the balance. Faith is not reckless, and God has given us wisdom for a reason. How do we discern between faith-driven decisions and emotional impulses?

The Role of Wisdom and Discernment is needed to determine wisdom vs. fear

“For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline.” — 2 Timothy 1:7

Fear disguises itself as wisdom, causing us to overanalyze instead of trusting God. It brings worry and anxiety, and all of these are feelings of uncertainty. All we need to do is trust in God.

Godly wisdom leads to peace, while fear leads to anxiety.

If a decision fills you with fear, take it to God and seek His peace.

A lot of times, I haven’t made a decision because I didn’t feel peace—but maybe that was the enemy trying to stir up uncertainty and stop me from moving where God wanted me to move. This is why we cannot make decisions based on emotions. We have to seek the Lord in everything.

Emotions Can Be Deceptive, But God’s Word is Always Trustworthy

The Guardrails of God’s Word

“Your word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path.” — Psalm 119:105

We cannot live life by letting our emotions guide us. We need to look to the Word of God and allow that to be our compass when our emotions are taking the lead.

If a decision contradicts Scripture, it’s not from God. He does not bring confusion—He brings peace.

Before making a big decision, find a related scripture and see if it aligns with God’s truth.

How often do you check your decisions against the Bible?

Trust God Over Logic

“Commit everything you do to the Lord. Trust him, and he will help you.” — Psalm 37:5

I’ve had to follow God’s leading despite having doubts. It is so hard to release expectations and all control over to God. My doubts may have been loud, but my faith in what God is able to do far outweighed my doubts.

Write down moments when God has come through in unexpected ways—it strengthens faith.

What’s one area where you need to trust God more?

Think about it, pray over it, give it to God, and let Him guide you. Trust Him, and He will help you.

Learning to Listen to God’s Leading

We’ve covered a lot—trusting God beyond logic, the balance of wisdom and faith. But how do we hear God’s voice clearly? Let’s dive into how we can recognize and follow His leading in our daily lives.

“My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.” — John 10:27

God speaks through His Word, prayer, and the Holy Spirit.

Distinguishing between God’s leading and our own desires requires making sure that we recognize how God speaks to us. We need to set aside quiet time daily to listen for His direction.

Hearing His voice is not easy. It is something we will work on from now until we are in heaven. God speaks to us in different ways, and we need to be open-minded and ready when He calls.

Have you ever experienced God’s voice leading you?

Remember how He talked to you then? He is probably doing the same thing now, or He could be speaking in a different way to catch your attention. He could be talking to you through Scripture, someone else, or even a song. We need to keep our eyes and ears focused on the Lord.

When Others Don’t Understand Your Faith

“People who aren’t spiritual can’t receive these truths from God’s Spirit. It all sounds foolish to them.” — 1 Corinthians 2:14

Faith-driven decisions often won’t make sense to others. In fact, a lot of the time, they may think you are making a horrible decision and will question you. But the thing is, God spoke to you. When we listen and obey, nothing else should matter. He didn’t speak to the other person—He spoke to you.

How to stay firm in your faith despite criticism? Seek wise counsel, but don’t let others shake your faith in God’s calling.

You can seek wise counsel, but make sure they are speaking God’s truth to you.

Has there been a time when others doubted what God was doing in your life?

We Need to Trust God With the Unknown

“I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.” — Jeremiah 29:11

God sees the full picture, even when we don’t. Think about needing glasses. If you aren’t wearing them, everything is blurry or hard to focus on. But as soon as you put them on, the clarity is drastically different. In the same way, our vision is limited, but God’s is in full focus—so we must trust in His goodness. He sees it already.

Choosing heart over mind means surrendering control.

When facing uncertainty, remind yourself of God’s faithfulness in the past.

Where do you need to surrender control to God?

Sometimes, following God’s leading won’t make sense. But we’re not called to figure everything out—we’re called to trust Him. God’s wisdom surpasses human logic, and when we walk by faith, we experience His best for us.

“Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life.” — Proverbs 4:23

Let your heart be led by the One who created it.

Keep trusting God with all your heart.
