Keep God First in Planning

We all have so much going on and we can deal with feeling like:

I can’t get everything done. I’m busy all the time, but I never feel like I’m getting the important things done. OR even if you get a day off it just seems to go by so fast and then it was wasted.

We all want to make the best of our time and accomplish more.

I have a calendar where I write down all the things that I or my family have scheduled. Compared to the days on a monthly calendar, we are doing pretty well at not overloading our schedule. But sometimes I’ll look at the calendar and wonder why it seemed like so much more than it is.

It was either more than I expected, or I was just busy.

Priorities are crucial and necessary when it comes to scheduling. God reveals to us what is truly most important in life. In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus said, Matthew 6:33, “But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.”

Above all, seek the Lord even in your schedule.

The Bible shows us that God is a Planner. Our planning comes from Him, giving us the ability to see and seek what is next and to prepare. We need long-range plans, annual plans, daily plans, and probably several plans in between.

Why plan? Lolly Daskal explains the importance of planning our time with this quote: “Planning our time is not about filling every moment with busy work but rather organizing our time around what is important. … Planning how to spend your time enables you to work far more efficiently than figuring it out as you go. What is planned happens because planning leads to action.”

We can plan time for every little detail of our lives, but we need to ensure that God and family are at the top of that list.

Joshua 1:8 says, “Study this Book of Instruction continually. Meditate on it day and night so you will be sure to obey everything written in it. Only then will you prosper and succeed in all you do.”

Keeping up with everything you have going on and trying to stay on track with it all can sometimes feel overwhelming.

I have a hard time keeping up with what I’m doing from moment to moment some days because my mind is running, but there is not a whole lot happening.

God is the one who can help us see what we really need to keep up with and make sure that we are staying on the path He has planned for us.

1 Chronicles 28:19-20 says, “‘Every part of this plan,’ David told Solomon, ‘was given to me in writing from the hand of the Lord.’ Then David continued, “Be strong and courageous, and do the work. Don’t be afraid or discouraged, for the Lord God, my God, is with you. He will not fail you or forsake you. He will see to it that all the work related to the Temple of the Lord is finished correctly.”

We are God’s people, and He will make sure that His work is finished in our lives. His plan is better than ours and is the only one we need to keep up with.
