Let it Shine. Let it Shine. Let it Shine.

Did you know that lightening bugs or fireflies are beetles…. I didn’t realize they were. These little bugs light up in the dark…well they flash, and the males and females have different patterns that they flash.

I’m sure you are wondering why I’m talking about this... Last night at our youth group service the Pastor was talking about being a light and for some reason the first thing that came to mind was a lightening bug. I’m not sure why the lightening bug was the first thing to come to mind but when sitting there thinking about it makes a lot of sense.

These little bugs fly around in the dark searching, and they flash their lights to talk to each other.

All over the Bible is reads of being a light — and what it means in relation to God, and in relation to your faith. It means that when you experience darkness it is important to have hope. We see the light of hope in the tough times. To know there is goodness at the end brings us hope. We have wisdom in knowing God is with us and will see us through.

We are called to be a light in, Matthew 5:16 it says, "Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven."

Just like God is the light, you can be a source of light too. You can bring hope to others by being a good example.

John 9:5 “While I am in the world, I am the light of the world.”

Through God, there’s hope all around us. Even though you can’t see him, He’s everywhere. We need to be a light not only to ourselves but to others. We can remind ourselves of the light of the Lord by going to the word and in prayer. Also with others who are watching how we handle things as Christians, if we are joyful even in the hard we are shining the light of Christ that is within us fully.

Psalm 119:105 “Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.”

If you can’t see where you’re going or need help seeing, God’s word will help you find your way. It will be your light. To be going through a time where you need hope, thank goodness, we have the Lord of hope to light up our path. For He knows the path better and more clearly than we do.

John 12:46, "I have come as a light to shine in the dark world, so that all who put their trust in me will no longer remain in the dark."

Jesus is our main source of light. When we go to Him we will know that we are no longer in the dark or that the season we are in will leave us in the dark. We will be ok because of God who is our light and knowing that all things work out for His good.

This little light of mine I'm gonna let it shine.
