Looking to the New Year

It is the day after Christmas and all the hustle and bustle of the day has come and gone. I cooked most of the time, but I enjoy that and getting to see the joy shared is always so special to me.

Now we get a few days of work and rest…yes, I know that sounds contradictory but that’s where we are the week between Christmas and New Years.

As we look to the New Year and think about what is to come, we often think about what we can change or what will happen or how will God use me.

Isaiah 43:19 - For I am about to do something new. See, I have already begun! Do you not see it? I will make a pathway through the wilderness. I will create rivers in the dry wasteland.

The Lord is making a new creation in the believer. Whether or not that is immediately apparent, God is turning each one of His children into a more righteous individual. He will change circumstances as well.

God has a plan and a path for us and is going to be doing something in your life in the new year. God is always at work. If you look back over this year you will see and know that God did something this year. Change comes and the good news is that God has already begun as it says in the scriptures.

“As you get older, however, you become more seasoned and experienced, more careful and cautious. You’re less willing to take risks. That can be good, because you’ve learned from experience. But that also can be bad, because you’re not willing to let the Lord do something fresh and new in your life.” - Greg Laurie

"Pastor Greg Laurie delivers an important reality here: With age comes cautiousness, but that we might, at times, want to be sure we are relying on God and leaving the space for fresh, new experiences that He wants for us."

As we dive into a new season, this is one of the Christian New Year quotes worth pondering. Through prayer and scripture reading we can be sure our lives are moving in the direction God wants, which is always the best path forward. We need to be willing to look to God and grow in who He is and what His word says.

Jeremiah 29:11-23 - For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope. In those days when you pray, I will listen. If you look for me wholeheartedly, you will find me.

This is one of the most powerful Bible verses about new beginnings. The realization that God has a plan for each and every one of us can help carry us into the new year. Focusing on His plan is key to helping us become the people we are meant to be.

As we think about what is to come. As we look back on what has been. Let’s notice the movement of God and what all He has brought us through and what He will bring us through.

No matter what season you are in know that God is with you, walking beside you and will bring you through to the other side.
