Mary heard from the Angel Gabriel and just had such faith in what was to happen with the birth of Jesus. To have faith like Mary is something to look at...
My faith is strong but I still have a lot of questions and need to understand so much. The scriptures do tell us that God is the God of the impossible and that we need to trust Him in all things.
Mary fully demonstrates this.
In Luke 1 starting in verse 26 it says that God sent the angel Gabriel to Nazareth to a virgin named Mary. He said greetings favored woman the Lord is with you. Mary of course was confused and didn’t know what the angel meant. Gabriel went on to tell her that she would carry and give birth to a son, and he would be called the Son of the Highest. It goes on some more and at the end of the conversation Mary says in verse 38 – I am the Lord’s servant. May everything you have said about me come true.
This is interesting because Mary, who is so young, was just like…I don’t fully understand any of this but since you are an angel, and you say it is from God then I will believe it will happen.
That kind of faith, this child-like faith, is what we all need.
Going on after Mary heard from the angel Gabriel she left and went to see her cousin Elizabeth's house, in a different city, and once she got there the interaction they have is so cool.
Elizabeth who was pregnant with John the Baptist immediately knew Mary was pregnant with Jesus because the Spirit came over her and the baby inside her leapt with joy.
Mary said nothing to Elizabeth and the Lord let Elizabeth know through His Spirit that Mary was carrying the Child, the Savior of the World.
I think this was some confirmation for Mary that she was not wrong in her faith and that what the angel had said was true.
Sometimes we get a word from the Lord, and we need that confirmation, not because we don’t believe but just as reassurance that we heard correctly.
So when you have heard from the Lord and others give you conformation, whether they know it or not, it is so reassuraing to know you are on the path God has laid out for you. There may be difficult long roads ahead but stay the course because what God says is true.
In Luke 2:46-56
Mary sings a song of praise and of faith to the Lord while she was staying with her cousin Elizabeth who was carrying John the Baptist at the time.
Mary responded, “Oh, how my soul praises the Lord. How my spirit rejoices in God my Savior! For he took notice of his lowly servant girl, and from now on all generations will call me blessed. For the Mighty One is holy, and he has done great things for me. He shows mercy from generation to generation to all who fear him. His mighty arm has done tremendous things! He has scattered the proud and haughty ones. He has brought down princes from their thrones
and exalted the humble. He has filled the hungry with good things
and sent the rich away with empty hands. He has helped his servant Israel
and remembered to be merciful. For he made this promise to our ancestors,
to Abraham and his children forever.”
Praise the Lord for all He has done and all He will do.
