Spiritual Battles

Today, we’re talking about something every believer faces—spiritual battles. Whether we realize it or not, we’re in a war that isn’t fought with physical weapons but with faith, prayer, and God’s Word. The Bible reminds us that our struggle isn’t against flesh and blood but against spiritual forces that seek to steal our peace, shake our faith, and pull us away from God.

“For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places.” — Ephesians 6:12

Reflect on areas where you feel spiritually drained and prepare to equip yourselves with God’s armor.

The unseen war… Spiritual battles are real, even if we can’t see them.

“Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour.” — 1 Peter 5:8

The enemy wants to weaken our faith through doubt, temptation, and discouragement. Sometimes I have been thrown off guard because I wasn’t ready for the attack, but the enemy is ready to catch you when you feel weak. So, we must stay alert and ask God to be with us at all times.

Pay attention to patterns—when do you feel the most attacked in your faith?

Recognizing the enemy’s tactics helps us fight back.

Have you noticed any areas in your life where the enemy seems to attack the most?

Many spiritual battles happen in our minds—through fear, anxiety, doubt, and lies.

The mind is a battlefield, and if we allow fear, anxiety, doubt, and lies to take over, we will feel every bit of the battle.

“We destroy every proud obstacle that keeps people from knowing God. We capture their rebellious thoughts and teach them to obey Christ.” — 2 Corinthians 10:5

God’s Word is our greatest weapon against these attacks.

When you have negative or doubtful thoughts, replace them with Scripture. Write down verses that combat your specific struggles.

I just talked with my daughter about this because it is so important for us to know what God says about us and how He sees us compared to the world.

What thoughts have been weighing you down lately? Are they from God or the enemy?

Identifying the enemy’s strategies. The enemy uses deception, distraction, and division to weaken us. Recognizing his strategies helps us fight effectively.

“The thief’s purpose is to steal and kill and destroy. My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life.” — John 10:10

If you’re feeling overwhelmed, take a step back and ask: Is this an attack trying to distract me from God’s purpose? Most of the time, the answer is yes, and that is because the enemy wants to keep us from doing the Lord’s work.

What distractions or struggles in your life might be part of a spiritual battle?

“Put on all of God’s armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil.” — Ephesians 6:11

God has given us spiritual armor to fight back: truth, righteousness, peace, faith, salvation, and His Word. We can’t fight in our own strength—we need God’s protection.

I didn’t think about the armor of God and the battles in the spiritual realm until I was in my 30s… Y’all, the spiritual battles I had been facing throughout my life that God fought for me were many, and I never even thought about it. But after studying the armor of God, my eyes were opened to a new perspective, love, and appreciation for the Lord.

We should absolutely start each day by praying through the armor of God, which is found in Ephesians 6:10-18.

Which piece of God’s armor do you need to use more in your daily life?

Prayer is not just a last resort—it’s our strongest weapon. The power of prayer in battle changes everything.

“The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results.” — James 5:16

Jesus fought spiritual battles through prayer, and so should we. When I think about this, I think of the time when Jesus was tempted on the mountain but also when He went and prayed, asking God to take the cup away from Him. In both instances, He went straight to the Father to help fight the battle. He prayed, He quoted Scripture, and He did that because He knew that God wins battles.

Set aside a few minutes each day for focused prayer over areas where you feel spiritually attacked.

How consistent is your prayer life? Do you use prayer as a weapon?

“Let the praises of God be in their mouths, and a sharp sword in their hands.” — Psalm 149:6

Worship as warfare. Worship shifts the atmosphere and silences the enemy’s lies.

I have often used worship to help me reset my thoughts and even start my prayers because I know that when we worship, we are posturing our hearts toward God, and our focus is then on who He is and what He does.

Praising God reminds us of His power and keeps our hearts focused on Him.

When you’re feeling spiritually attacked, turn on worship music and sing praises to God.

Have you experienced peace through worship in the middle of a battle?

Walking in victory - Standing firm in faith

“So humble yourselves before God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” — James 4:7

Victory comes when we stand firm, not when we run away in fear. Facing the trial head-on seems to be counterintuitive because why would we put ourselves through certain things when we can run away from them? But to have spiritual growth, we need to walk in the storm, knowing that God has won the battle for us. This shows where our faith is.

The enemy has no power over those who are surrendered to Christ.

When you’re tempted to give up, declare God’s promises over your situation.

What is one promise from God that you need to hold onto right now?

Spiritual battles can feel lonely, but we are meant to support one another.

“Share each other’s burdens, and in this way obey the law of Christ.” — Galatians 6:2

Encouraging others in their battles strengthens our own faith. Now, we don’t do it for that—we do it because God wants us to walk with each other and strengthen each other. We are to show the love of God in all things, and carrying each other’s burdens does just that.

Reach out to someone who may be struggling and offer to pray for them.

Who in your life needs encouragement in their own spiritual battle?

We are not just survivors of spiritual battles—we are conquerors in Christ.

“No, despite all these things, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ, who loved us.” — Romans 8:37

God has already won the victory, and we can live in that truth. In reading a book, there was something about this, and it said that when we pray and ask God to help us, we pray in faith, knowing that God has already won, and we need to give Him praise from the beginning.

Speak victory over your life, even when you don’t feel it yet.

How can you live with a victorious mindset today?

We’ve learned that spiritual battles are real, but we don’t have to fight them alone. God has given us His armor, the power of prayer, and the weapon of worship to overcome every attack of the enemy.

No matter what battle you’re facing, remember this: the war is already won in Christ. Stand firm, trust God, and walk in victory!

You are not fighting for victory—you are fighting from victory. Jesus has already won!

Keep your faith strong, your armor on, and your eyes on Jesus.
