"Have nothing in your house that you do not know to be useful or believe to be beautiful." - William Morris
We all know about spring cleaning, and sometimes we look forward to it, while other times we don't.
Over the years, I have done a lot of cleaning. Growing up, my parents would open the windows, turn on some oldies, and we would clean.
Now, I sometimes do the same. We are also teaching our kids that from time to time, they need to evaluate and clean out stuff as well.
We need to do this with our hearts as well. Spring cleaning can be done. We need to evaluate what it is we are taking in, watching, and listening to. Also, what we are putting out, our conversations and reactions.
We need to be sure we are following what it says in Romans 12:2 - "Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect."
When we evaluate this throughout the year, we can make sure we are staying focused on God and all He has for us. If we need to make changes, then let's do some spring cleaning and get it done.
Sometimes what we also need is just a reminder of things. When we are cleaning, we come across memories of things throughout the year and boom, we have flashbacks. Those memories can sometimes bring on a lot of different emotions. One thing that we really need to remember is joy. Joy fills our hearts and comes out in many different ways, and it's a renewal.
Psalm 51:12 says, "Restore to me the joy of your salvation, and make me willing to obey you."
Restoring joy when we go to God and ask Him to show us how to get it back. We have evaluated what we are missing, and now we are ready to clean things out and restore the joy we are seeking through God.
Spring cleaning is a good thing. It brings on restoration and renewal. With God helping us to go through all we have and point out what needs to be changed, we will be able to find what we are seeking... Him and His love.
Galatians 5:22-23 But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things!
