What are you passing on to those around you? What are you instilling into your children? What are you leaving behind?
I know that when I am meeting together with others and engaging in conversation I am aware of what it is I am saying and how I am acting because I want to come across a certain way. Mostly thought I don't want to make a fool of my self by putting my foot in my mouth or saying something I shouldn't have shared.
Colossians 3:17 reads, And whatever yo do or say do it as a representative of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through Him to God the Father.
Those are some big shoes to fill.....being a representative of the Lord Jesus, but I think we should keep it in mind as we meet with others.
When teaching me kids I want to instill good qualities and there have been times I see my own personality in them and I question those qualities I am passing on....Is that something I wanted them to learn? Maybe or maybe not but its there.
Proverbs 22:6 says, Train up a child in the way he should go, even when he is old, he will not depart for it.
Ok, there are those big shows to fill again....but this is a little more doable. We all learn things from people around us and we can decide what to keep and what to discard. Luckily those who learn from us can do the same. It is my intention as a parent to teach things I want my kids to then pass on. I hope that what they learn through my walk with God in how to also walk with God, but better.
What I want to leave behind is a legacy that people know without a doubt what my beliefs were and that I lived for Christ. But also when I leave a conversation I want people to feel the joy of the Lord.
When Jesus walked this Earth He was here to tell others about God. He is our example, and thank God for His grace and mercy because I am not perfect and will mess up.
We are able to go to God and ask for wisdom. It says that in James 1:5 If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and He will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking.
What a blessing because I'm positive that the only way I can get close to sharing what I want and intend to share in a purposeful way is through God.
My want is to pass on love, understanding, compassion, wisdom, and memories that all lead to letting people know and remember me as a person who lived a life devoted to God. I pray that that is your want as well.
