Worry & Comfort

Proverbs 3:5-6 - "Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take."

Saw an old post of mine featuring some wildflowers that had been picked from the yard and placed into a vase of water. They sat there in the water for about a week and a half. This was interesting because usually the flowers my kids bring me last a day, maybe two. Yet here these flowers were, taken from their comfort, and they were still thriving. We can be taken from our comfort zones and be unsure of what will happen. But like these flowers, when we are removed from our comfort and when we rely on God, He will take care of us. Things may become difficult, and you may struggle, but ultimately, God provides.

Matthew 6:31-34 – “So don’t worry about these things, saying, ‘What will we eat? What will we drink? What will we wear?’ These things dominate the thoughts of unbelievers, but your heavenly Father already knows all your needs. Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and He will give you everything you need. So don’t worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today’s trouble is enough for today.”

So often, when I've felt anxious, it's generally been because I've felt that I had no control. In reality, you simply can't control everything, no matter how hard you try. As I walk through learning how to let go of things and rely more and more on God, I've realized that I don't need to worry as much about all the things that happen or don't happen because God is in control of all things. So, I don't need to feel like I have to control things. It has been a huge relief for me to feel the peace of God in this.

Colossians 3:15 says, “And let the peace that comes from Christ rule in your hearts. For as members of one body, you are called to live in peace. And always be thankful.”

There has been significant change over the last five years of our lives—more change than I ever thought we would go through. Job changes, life adjustments, and, most of all, spiritual transformations. God has allowed us to experience some uncomfortable situations. There were many uncertain times, but He permitted it all to teach us to rely on Him rather than the things of this world. He wanted us to clearly see His plan for us. I feel like we are now walking where God wants us to be. Things don’t seem so uncertain anymore, and we are immensely thankful for the perspective God has given us and the growth we have experienced in our relationship with Him.

Philippians 4:6-7 – “Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.”
